Terroir

The Climate, The Climate is of Mediterranean type, characterised by lots of sunshine, low rainfall and lots of Mistral wind. The Mistral blows on around 120 days a year and is really good for vine health; limiting fungal disease including mildew or botrytis. The climate is temperate, thanks to the influence of the pre-alpine Dentelles de Montmirail, handing our appellation all the trump cards necessary for wines with very distinctive and original characteristics.

The vines grow in three different types of soil: stony limestone-clay (40%) clay – slopes and terraces (40%) and sandy (20%).

Red grape varieties : Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. The Grenache Noir, which is our main variety, gives the wine roundness, fattiness and fruity aromas and flavours. The Syrah contributes colour and spicy notes while the Mourvèdre provides structure in the mouth. The Cinsault adds a touch of finesse.

White grape varieties : Grenache Blanc and Clairette. The harmony of our white wines id the product of a subtle harmony between the roundness of Grenache Blanc associated with the freshness and finesse of Clairette.

The estate’s vineyards are on the communes of Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Sarrians. The average vine age is between 40 and 60 years old for the Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache Blanc, Cinsault and Clairette, while some of our Grenache vines are between 80 and 100 years old.
